The corona virus disease caused all schools to conduct Home Learning Program. As a pandemic situation all around the world, it forced all schools and universities to be on-line. Saint John’s Catholic School (SJCS) started its Home Learning Program (HLP) on the 16th March 2020.
For the first two days of HLP, teachers were still going to school to prepare the materials that should be given to the students. Some students also came in person to take their books from their lockers. Sauber, maintenance, and helpers were also busy cleaning up all the stuff at school.
Wednesday, 18th March 2020, teachers and staff started their Work from Home (WFH) activities. Teachers prepared and monitored the students’ activities. Home Learning Program and Work from Home was meant to cut the spread of the virus.
Stages of disinfecting the school were taken, hoping that the school days can restart after two weeks of HLP and WFH. Unfortunately, the pandemic situation in Indonesia became worse so that the Minister of Education announced the annulment of the National Examinations and longer period of learning at home.
During the HLP there were a lot of activities. Pre-K and KG had their motoric skills training, language skills, etc. The Primary students who are preparing for their first communion were also continuing their preparation through online monitoring.Sports and morning exercises under the morning sunrays were also a part of their morning activities. Some students were even using their uniform to have the sense of schooling. This first week of April is used to continue the mid semester tests or the school examinations that were postponed from the mid-March.
It seems that the students are longing to their friends and teachers. Although they can meet through online media, they said that feeling of togetherness is different. Parents and teachers are probably having the same feelings. Hopefully this pandemic will end soon, and we can all go back to school and to work. God bless!
