July 6 – Saturday

Saturday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel Reading MT 9:14-17

Reflection

Jesus introduces us here to a radically new way of seeing him or to a vision of him that is beyond all our hopes and dreams. He is saying that he is drawing us into an intimacy with Him that is imaged as that between a bridegroom and his bride. The environment he wants us to cultivate is that of a wedding where a celebratory atmosphere prevails. We are made for joy.

Be with Jesus in prayer and rest with the reality that your happiness, peace or joy is a deep concern of Jesus as you can see from the following scriptures.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid” (John 14:27).

“I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11).

Prayer:

Jesus, I ask you to come and visit me and fill me with your joy. Amen
